Description

a literally last-day entry for :icongoatlactic:'s contest goatlactic.deviantart.com/jour…

May I present to you my 'race,' the Saitek(plural, Sai-ek singular)!

Their backstory and physical makeup are a bit complicated, so bear with me here..
Basically, there was once a planet really far away with no name and two main species living on it: The Ihk, a bunch of superevolved neo-amoebas, and the Magu, some random sentients, who harvested crops for food. There was a cycle on this planet, which all revolved around the gaseous compound GH-2:

1.GH-2 in atmosphere.
2.Ihk absorb GH-2 through body, live.
3. Ihk excrete various fluids through protoplasm as waste.
4. Extremely nutritious waste (?) fertilizes soil, aloows crops to flourish.
5. The Magu's unique systems excrete GH-2 into the air.
6.Gh-2 in atmosphere.

And so on.

However, like all sentients, the Magu eventually discovered the idea of machines, and of course, the best power source on the planet?
You got it. Gh-2. And of course, with machinery comes an energy crisis-- however this time it was an immediate threat.
The sudden drop in Gh-2 levels caused a drop in Ihk too, and suddenly everyone on the planet was starving to death. In desperation, the best Maguvian minds came together and developed a new sort of 'life-support system:' the Saito, an autonomous intelligence. The Saito, after its completion, was deprogrammed. Every single bit of its code, which was designed to be able to splt up and rebuild itself (think stahhhhfish) was inserted into a sort of module (called a capsule on the chart). These modules would then fuse to the first available Ihk for life. See, the reason the Ihk were dying was because without Gh-2, their organs didn't have the energy to function... but with the modules straddling them (!) and flooding their jellylike, superconducting bodies with electricity, their organs would be jumpstarted and allow them to continue excreting fluids. And even better: The electricity coursing repeatedly through the Ihk would actually generate MORE electricity, making the Saito modules, now known as Saitihk, almost completely efficient and only reducing the Ihk's lifespan by a few years!

And the best part? Each bit of program inside a module would be a learning AI, allowing for both genetic diversity in the Saitihk and social interaction (although this was originally impossible because the Ihks were... amoebas). A this point the Saito had also genetically fused with the Ihk, becoming sort of shells that contained the brains, and every time the Saitihk reproduced (they had gender, even if they were basically amoeba) the new baby would be born with tiny self-generating fragments on their back. And so the Maguvians were saved forever! :DDD

Does this sound too good to be true?

It is.

Eventually, the Saitihk became self-aware. This is the worst possible thing that can happen with a genetically created mollusk shell and they soon renamed themselves the Saitek, and soon afterwards massacred every Maguvian on the planet, stating that as long as the Maguvians continued reproducing eventually there would not be enough space for the Saitek. However, soon after this around 70 % of the Saitek evolved morality, and so they had a massive war amongst those who thought it was necessary, those who thought it was wrong, and those who thought it was right. Eventually, through basic evolution throughout the war, morality genes became implanted in every Saitek, so the war abruptly stopped.
Now, we can speculate that the reason they developed morality was due to the Saito 'brain' eventually assimilating the Ihk brain's conscious and becoming, in essence, no longer an AI but a sentient brain. So basically at this point they are not longer robots. Ha!

Anyhow, the population of the Saitek, along with the planet, had been obliterated by the 6 century war... and with no resources, several of the Saitek decided to bravely serve as colonists, gathering their remaining resources (see, they even needed food now, they had evolved so) and blasting off into space.
On their way through the system, they are hit by an asteroid; the resulting electromagnetic pulse causes all of the Saitek on board to go dormant (see 'capsule' form, in this form the gel-like part of their body is squished inside it!) and the ship to explode.

The dormant Saitek were scattered all over the system, but a majority of the colonists crashed on the Deserge's and the Moln's planet, where they remained in stasis until one was found by a curious Moln, and eventually the rest were dug up. on other planets, the moist conditions, etc. usually allowed them to wake themselves up. And basically that's it! While the ones on Deserge planet were dug up rather quickly and stayed basically fine, many of the others, including some on the Deserge plane, went rampant/insane, and have become extremely dangerous, reverting almost to their AI state of mind.

The Saitek are very logical and calculating, and can often go into a panic if their plans go awry. They can go into biostasis if things go really bad: however, this often results in either rampancy or death. There is almost no difference in gender... and babies have noen as they develop it like clams or something. While active, they can, if needed, shock prey/enemies/people who've pissed 'em off through direct contact, usually resulting In death, however, it will result in a drop in power levels and is also dangerous. Some Saitek have control over this however and can be VERY dangerous when they need to be.

So that's their backstory... ugh it was annoying, ok goatlactic if I win this YES but I have a bunch more stuff I need to tell you about these guys... and if I don't Im totally using these guys as not-alien-characters so hey what the hell :L
